Typical of Rinker, the 260 doesn't come bare-bones in order to hit an attractive yet unrealistically low price point; rather, it comes with all the goodies you need to take the family on the trip of a lifetime.Equipped with a full camper canvas enclosure, pumpout head, hot and cold water, and even a flat-screen TV/DVD with antenna and cable hookup for at-anchorage entertainment, the boat should satisfy everyone aboard. Boarding via the yacht-sized swim platform that's integrated for a clean look, you can't help but notice the big-boat features such as the aft trunk for storage, the transom shower and a shore-power hookup.Powered by a single MerCruiser 350 MAG that produces 300 hp, our test boat performed better than most in this class, with a time to plane of 5.2 seconds and a 0-30 mph run that took 10.4 seconds. Although you can get the Rinker 260 with a smaller 260 hp, 5.0L engine in either MerCruiser or Volvo Penta flavors, you won't reach an uncruiser-like top speed of 42.2 mph like we did. We found ourselves using the standard Lenco trim tabs whenever anyone would walk about the roomy cockpit while under way, due to the relatively high center of gravity and wave-cushioning 18 degrees of deadrise. The 260 feels like a bigger boat, but cranking it hard over allowed us to carve a tight, really-lean-into-it turn. The cabin ambiance was cheery, with standard cherry cabinetry. You can sleep four with a drop-down dinette sleeper V-berth and a large, open, amidships cabin that doesn't make you feel like you are spelunking. The cabin height is 6 feet, 4 inches, which, coincidentally, is the Rinker president's height. You can even sleep two more in the roomy cockpit if you order the optional filler cushions for the aft seating area. A full galley and stand-up head help make this more than a weekender.
